Dear Parents/Carers,
I am writing to inform you that some staff who are members of the National Education Union are taking industrial action on Wednesday 29 November 2017. These members of staff are protesting as they state that there are proposed changes to their terms and conditions if Avenue decides to become an academy after the consultation process. Staff have been assured by the Governing Body and the Trust that their terms and conditions would remain the same.
Arbitration through ACAS was offered as an alternative to strike action, which would have enabled the school to stay fully open and prevent the disruption to our children’s education. This was declined by staff at the school.
The decision to close the school is never taken lightly. In this instance where staff have elected to take industrial action, I am taking appropriate steps to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of all pupils.
I am aware that class closures will cause inconvenience to parents and carers and so I am writing to give you notice of the likely impact of the industrial action on this school.
